I’m honored to have returned home from Left Coast Crime in Phoenix with the Lefty Award for Best Mystery set in the LCC Region (western US) for The Accidental Alchemist!
Here are some photos from the long weekend.
Dori the gargoyle had fun with the book bag we got when we checked in.
The Opening Ceremonies
At the opening ceremonies, nomination plaques were handed out.
One of the best things about the convention was getting to know these two great guys. We were nominated along with Robert Crais and Michael Connelly.
With pal Diane Vallere, who was nominated for a Lefty for Best Humorous Mystery.
Sisters in Crime
Diane Vallere and Kendel Lynn having fun at the Sisters in Crime photo booth, behind bars for the literary crime of being “over exlamationers!!!”
One of the perks of being on the Sisters in Crime board this year: getting to better know this terrific group of women! Julie Hennrikus (aka Julianne Holmes), Diane Vallere, Leslie Budewitz, Catriona McPherson, Susan Shea, and me.
I love short stories (both reading and writing them) so I enjoyed this discussion with Mysti and Dale Berry, Stephen Buehler, MH Callway, Sarah M Chen.
The panel featuring Cindy Sample, Ellen Byron, Diane Vallere, Donna Andrews, and Jess Lourey was so well attended that I had to stand in the back to attend.
Great questions from moderator Robert Roselwald for me, Josh Stallings, and Matt Coyle.
Kate Carlisle, Anne Cleeves, Vicki Delany, me, and Thomas Perry. We’re all crazy enough to write multiple series.
Melissa Lenhardt, Nancy Cole Silverman, and Cindy Brown.
Lunch with Vera Chan and Gary Phillips.
And late-night fun with some party crashers.
The Awards Banquet
Eep! With the incredible competition, I wasn’t expecting to win. That meant I got to enjoy the banquet without being nervous, but then I had to get up and give a speech!
With toastmistress Catriona McPherson and Jess Lourey as we set up our tables at the banquet.
After the banquet with my fabulous Midnight Ink editor Terri Bischoff and the Lefty Award—this year in the shape of a crystal cactus since we’re in Arizona.
